Inspired by Nature

path, forest, hike

Since childhood, I’ve found peace and joy in the natural world. I vividly remember lying in the grass at a small community park when I was nine, watching clouds drift by and gathering white clover flowers to bring home. My father would take our family hiking, foraging in the woods, and fishing in Wisconsin’s serene rivers. Those moments, filled with quiet beauty and wonder, are etched in my memory as times of deep peace and inspiration. The gentle rustle of leaves, the call of a bird, or the glow of a sunset seemed to hold the seeds of countless stories waiting to be told.

When I grew older and bought my own house, I carried that love for nature with me. I planted large flower beds and a vegetable garden, making sure I could spend time outdoors every day. There’s something so grounding about tending to plants, watching them grow, and being surrounded by the beauty of flowers and greenery. It’s a place where I can clear my mind, find inspiration, and connect to the simplicity of life.

Now, as a mom, I share my love of nature with my own children. We enjoy hiking, camping, and exploring the rivers of Tennessee, much like my father did with me. These moments spent together outdoors are some of the most cherished in my life. Nature has a way of bringing people closer, and I believe it’s a gift to share that experience with my children. The rivers, trees, and mountains have a special kind of magic that creates lasting memories and teaches us about the importance of conservation and respect for the earth.

The simplicity and beauty of nature have not only shaped my lifestyle but also inspired my writing. In a world that can often feel chaotic, nature reminds me of the importance of slowing down, breathing, and appreciating the small things. This philosophy of simplicity and mindfulness is something I try to weave into my stories, encouraging others—especially children—to see the magic in the world around them. I believe that nature has so much to teach us, if we only take the time to listen.

Many mornings, you’ll find me sitting in my garden with a cup of coffee, journaling, writing, or illustrating. I’m surrounded by flowers, butterflies, and birds, and it’s in these moments of stillness that I feel most inspired. Nature is my quiet companion as I put pen to paper, bringing stories to life. It’s in these peaceful moments that my creativity flows, and I am reminded of the importance of living simply, appreciating the beauty that surrounds us.

I firmly believe that everyone should take time to be out in nature, whether it’s for a walk in the park, a hike through the woods, or simply sitting in a garden. Nature has a way of clearing our minds, grounding us, and bringing us peace. If you can’t always escape to the outdoors, I encourage you to bring nature to you. Plants, flowers, and even the sounds of nature can create a calming atmosphere in any home, reminding us of the beauty that exists in the world.

Living a life filled with nature doesn’t have to mean grand adventures or faraway travels—it can be as simple as noticing the birds singing outside your window, the rustling leaves, or the scent of fresh flowers. I’ve found that these small moments are just as valuable as the bigger experiences. They remind us of the beauty and simplicity that exist all around us, and they encourage us to slow down and truly see the world.

Ultimately, I believe that a life surrounded by nature is a beautiful life. It teaches us gratitude, mindfulness, and the importance of living in harmony with the world around us. Nature has inspired my writing, my life, and the way I see the world. Through my stories, I hope to pass along a bit of that magic, encouraging others to step outside, explore, and appreciate the beauty that nature has to offer.
